EMT Training Fund Certificate of Eligibility

If you are taking EMT for the first time, you must complete and submit the EMT Training Fund Certificate of Eligibility. This form must be signed by an Officer with the organization you are joining or are a member of. 

Instructions: Click here to open the EMT Training Fund Certificate of Eligibility form. Print it by going to the FILE menu tab on your browser and then hit PRINT. Fill it completely out and mail it to us with your registration for the class.

EMT Training Fund Certificate of Eligibility for Continuing Education

If you are taking CEU's, you must complete and submit the EMT Training Fund Certificate of Eligibility for Continuing Education. This form must be signed by an Officer with the organization you are joining or are a member of.

2008 Fall EMT Basic Class

Emergency Medical Technician - Basic students are trained to provide basic life support measures such as patient assessment, treatment of shock, oxygen therapy, use of certain medications, bandaging and splinting and emergency childbirth.  Students will practice basic skills in small groups.  

This class starts on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, is held Tuesday & Thursday nights from 7:30 PM until 10:30 PM with some Sunday classes.  The last class will be December 18, 2008.  The written test date will be advised.  Students must be at least 16 years of age by the first night of class.

Course graduates are eligible for college credit recommendation.

Course Sponsor: Bergen County Technical Schools

Tuition: Free to members or prospective of VOLUNTEER First Aid Squads with signed EMT Training Fund Certificate of Eligibility. Otherwise $110.00 tuition plus non-Bergen County Residents. Add $25.00 per semester Out of County Fee. (Fee accessed once for all courses taken between 7/1/08 and 12/31/08.)

First Responder Class

First Responders are often the first trained person to arrive at the scene of an emergency.  You will be expected to take appropriate action and provide care for injuries or sudden illness until more advanced medical personnel arrive.  This course prepares you to fulfill this role as a First Responder. Students will practice basic skills in small groups.

This course should be taken by Police Officers, Firefighters, Rescuers, Office of Emergency Management Personnel, Recreation Coaches, Scout Leaders, Teachers, and any other persons who wish to be prepared.

Course Sponsor: Bergen County Technical Schools

Tuition: Course tuition $30.  *Non-Bergen County Residents add $25 per semester Out of County Fee. (Fee accessed once for all courses taken between 1/1/2008 & 6/30/2008.)  No tuition for members of Emergency Service Organizations who submit a completed and signed First Responder Authorization Form.  Otherwise enclose indicated tuition.  All out of county students must pay the out of county fee.

EMS Line Officer 1

This course is designed to provide the experienced EMT with an overview of the skills necessary to be an effective line officer.  The following is a partial listing of topics:

  • The corps as a team

  • Techniques to improve cooperation & communication within the corps

  • Leadership styles, recruitment & retention

  • The line officers and the lawyers - An overview of applicable laws and  compliance methods

  • Conflict Resolution

A certificate of completion of 8 CEU credits will be issued to the student who meets all State criteria.

Class will start at 8 AM and end at 4:30 PM Saturday, December 20, 2008.  Students should bring lunch as only 1/2 hour is scheduled for lunch.

Advance registration is required. Class size will be limited.

Note: EMT's with expired cards and doctors and nurses taking this course for the first time must take the NREMT written test.  

NJ OEMS policy requires that if one's state EMT certification has lapsed beyond 24 months, eligibility to sit for the certification exam requires successful completion of an EMT Basic training program.

If you are a basic student who failed the test three times, you must take this course to have three more chances to pass the test.  

NOTE: you must pass the test within one year from the last day of your BASIC class.  The state DOH will check this one year requirement before they let you test.
